Practice Some Poses!

Brides often ask me how they should prepare for the photos on their wedding day.  Here are some questions I often hear, and the advice I give:

•  Should the couples have an engagement session with their photographer?

Absolutely. It’s invaluable to have the experience of being in front of a camera before your wedding day. When your photographer makes the session relaxed and fun, the images reflect that carefree mood. Once you realize how effortless the experience can be, it will calm any anxiety about getting in front of the camera the day of your wedding.

•  Do you direct your couples on the shoot?

Yes. I know how to make my clients look their best, because I’ve been photographing engagements and weddings for a decade. You want that level of experience in your photographer. And you want someone with the creativity to play with backgrounds, great composition and dramatic natural light.

•  What’s the best way for brides to learn how to pose for their engagement wedding images?

Get in front of a full length mirror and turn on some music! Dance, smile, laugh and move! A woman who is comfortable in her own skin always looks gorgeous in front of the camera. Flaunt it!

•  What’s best to wear to an engagement session?

This is a special event, so I always recommend taking time with make-up, hair and wardrobe. It’s your time to shine!

•  What’s your advice for wedding hair and make-up?

Try the look out before your wedding. You should still look like yourself, just enhanced. Be gently assertive with your make-up artist and salons, letting them know your taste and desired results.

•  How do you make engagement sessions fun?

We begin by choosing a location that is special to the client, whether it’s the beach or a meadow or right in the city center. Then we spice it up by including props. We’ve used parasols, bikes, flowers, and dogs— to name just a few. Each session is incredibly unique to the personality of the couple.
